Manchester United manager Erig Ten Hag has been sacked this morning but he will be leaving the club after FA Cup Final against Manchester City
Manchester United have opted to fire manager Erik ten Hag following Saturday’s FA Cup final, according to reports.
During his second season in command at Old Trafford, the Dutchman faced intense criticism for his future after managing an injury-ravaged club to eighth place in the Premier League.
There will be no European football at United in 2024/25 unless they defeat Manchester City on Saturday, but The Guardian reports that triumph will not be enough to keep Ten Hag in his post.
The Red Devils have already begun looking for a replacement for the former Ajax manager, meeting with Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna, who is also on a list of prospective successors that includes Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Frank, and Thomas Tuchel.
Pochettino, who just recently confirmed his departure from Chelsea after a single season, is claimed to have been informed of the probable vacancy at United.
Following a rocky start at United, Ten Hag turned things around in his debut season, leading the team to third place in the league and the Carabao Cup, their first trophy in six years.

However, this term has been a whole different story. Uncertainty regarding the club’s ownership had an impact on the team’s early season results, resulting in a disappointing performance in the Champions League, when they finished last in their group.
While hampered by a slew of ailments throughout his squad, but notably in defense, Ten Hag’s management and in-game tactics have come under fire following some particularly indifferent performances in 2023/24.
The 54-year-old may yet follow in the footsteps of previous United manager and compatriot Louis van Gaal by winning the FA Cup in his farewell match, but their recent record versus City is not encouraging. The Red Devils have lost four of the previous five encounters with their local rivals, including this season’s two league games, which Pep Guardiola’s side won 6-1 on aggregate.
