We are in the final few weeks of the 2024 summer transfer season, and as anticipated, the rumour mill is producing astonishing tale after extraordinary story.
We have got a little bit of everything this week, from ridiculous swap deals to teams pleading for world-class players for free and superstars connected with unexpected transfers.
Here are our selections for the seven most outlandish transfer speculations currently circulating.
Julian Alvarez-Rodrygo exchange agreement
El Nacional in Spain reports that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has offered a swap deal that would send Julian Alvarez to Real Madrid in return for Rodrygo Goes.
In our opinion, El Nacional is a constant source of delight.
This week, the Spanish newspaper turned out another doozy:
A) Insisting that Guardiola handles Man City’s transfer business, not sports director Txiki Begiristain.
B) Proposing a simple exchange between two players with significantly different valuations in today’s market, particularly given Rodrygo and Alvarez’s differing fates in 2023-24.
C) Stating that Manchester City would be looking for another wide forward after signing Savio this summer.

A rumor
According to Duncan Castles, Manchester United are considering Sander Berge as an alternative to top target Manuel Ugarte.
Our take
In 2019, this transfer speculation may have made sense.
However, in 2024, and after seeing Berge play in the Premier League and Championship in previous years, it does not.
Armando Broja joins Juventus.
Mike Zarrilli/GettyImages captured Armando Broja’s surprise rumor.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus is looking for a backup striker and has identified Armando Broja from Chelsea as a potential candidate.
Our take
Given Arkadiusz Milik’s fitness issues over the years, it seems logical that Juventus would be looking for a fresh striker to complement Dusan Vlahovic.
Broja would undoubtedly be an inexpensive alternative to replace this vacuum in their attack, but is he a good enough one? It is hard to say where he is right now.
