FC Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde suffered a frightening injury during Saturday’s La Liga match against Las Palmas. The left back was struck in the neck or throat by Las Palmas forward Sandro Ramirez, causing him to fall to the ground and require medical attention.
Disturbing images shared on social media appeared to show Balde vomiting blood, and reports suggest that he experienced difficulty breathing. Despite attempting to get to his feet, Balde collapsed and was stretchered off the pitch in the 26th minute.
The incident occurred with the score still tied at 0-0, and Balde was replaced by Gerard Martin. The severity of Balde’s injury is currently unknown, and it remains to be seen whether he will be sidelined again.
