Manchester City News

Manchester City Star Julian Alvarez ‘asks to leave Man City’ after rejecting four-year contract with Chelsea and PSG among clubs interested in £70m striker

What happened?
According to El Chiringuito, Alvarez has declined a new four-year deal with Manchester City and is looking for a new challenge. Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are both thought to be interested in the World Cup champion, but would have to spend at least £70 million (€81 million/$89 million) to get him away from the Etihad.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Losing Alvarez would be a major setback for City. While not as well-known as Haaland or Kevin De Bruyne, the Argentina international has played a crucial part for Pep Guardiola. His contributions as a replacement or in the absence of their Norwegian talisman have helped City dominate the Premier League since his arrival in 2022.

Did you know?
Alvarez, 24, has already won the World Cup, Copa América, Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup. He has had an extremely successful career, scoring 32 goals in 54 outings for City last season.

What’s next for Alvarez and City?
Alvarez has little choice but to wait for the opportunity to join with a new club. He is under contract until 2028 and will report for pre-season with the rest of his teammates before traveling to the United States for the tour.
