Manchester City owner has finally decided Joao Cancelo future at the club after Loan to Barcelona

Joao Cancelo has said again that he wants to stay at Barcelona, even though his future with Manchester City is unsure.

He was on loan in La Liga last season, but his deal at Manchester City runs until 2027. After a bad breakup with City in January 2023 and a loan move to Bayern Munich, Cancelo doesn’t seem to have much of a chance to restore his career.

Having spent the last year at Barcelona, he has said that Pep Guardiola and City lied about how he left and were not grateful for his help while he was at the Etihad.

According to reports, the defender, who is currently with Portugal at Euro 2024, said, “I really like being at Barcelona; I feel very at ease.” My family, including my daughter and wife. We hope to be here again next year.

Reports in Spain say that City told Barcelona that they would only let Cancelo go on loan for another season if they agreed to buy him back for £25 million at the end of the 2024–25 season. It cost City about £60 million to buy Cancelo.

Guardiola showed flexibility for a City U-turn last week by saying Cancelo would be in City’s pre-season group if his future wasn’t clear before then, even though it’s clear what the player wants. Any choice about what to do with the 30-year-old player probably won’t come until after Portugal’s Euro 2024 campaign is over.

When asked about his future before the tournament, Cancelo said, “It caused a certain doubt [previous rumors over his future] when I was off, but from the first day here, I forgot all that.” Barcelona wants to re-sign him next season. There is nothing else on my mind besides helping Portugal and the national team.

“Euro 2020 was unfair to me because I was kicked out of the game after testing positive for Covid. I now want to answer for myself, my family, the people who love me, and my friends who wanted to be here, that day they dreamed of, just like me.” So, I’m going to lay all of my cards on the table, do everything I can, and help Portugal the most I can.
