WHAT MACANTHONY SAID
EFL chairman MacAnthony, who runs League One club Peterborough, does not believe harsh action would be done, despite Juve losing a title as a result of the Calciopoli incident in 2006. He told talkSPORT: “I’m not sure what the rules are that apply to those accusations. I don’t know what the punishment is. I’m not sure what the precedence is in the past. Is there two points per charge? I believe media headlines such as’relegation’, ‘banned’, and ‘league championships from the past given back’ are rubbish. I don’t believe you can change the past; I’m aware that this occurred in Italy, but I’m not a fan.
“Everyone in sport tries to manipulate; I’m not suggesting Man City did anything, but let me speak for the EFL. Everyone, regardless of pay limitations, laws, or anything else, tries to work around the system in order to sign and develop players as strong as possible. I’m not suggesting anyone is breaching the law or breaking any laws, but there is certainly rule-bending going on, and it’s no different in the Premier League. And I simply believe Man City, who they are and what they’ve done over the previous decade, are an easy target, fantastic media attention, and I just say, “Let it play out, let’s see what happens in the end.”

Did you know?
As the FFP saga continues, questions are being raised about Pep Guardiola’s future at City, with MacAnthony adding: “I can’t speak for Pep, but I think he’s done six years, maybe more, oh eight years, which is probably a long time for him. He may be like Jurgen Klopp, and after another year of winning X amount in a succession, he might say, “You know what? I need a year off.
“This game is ruthless, and I understand what Jurgen Klopp accomplished. It’s difficult enough to be an owner or a manager, but being in that rat race over the last four years since Covid has been unrelenting. When you talk about mental health or physical health, these folks are subjected to a lot of scrutiny. So I can only image how Pep’s body and mind are feeling, and perhaps he needs some time off. If I were Manchester City, I would tell Pep to take a year off and let your number two take over. You could then return after a well-deserved break.”I would have done that with Jurgen.”
WHAT IS NEXT?
City have altered history by winning four Premier League titles in a row. They will defend their title at Stamford Bridge on August 18, after playing pre-season friendlies in the United States against AC Milan, Barcelona, and Chelsea.
