Arsenal Gunners News

“He was the difference maker for Arsenal tonight, we could have lost the match if not for him”- Arsenal icon Ian Wright was quick to heap praises on ‘brave’ Arsenal hero for being the difference maker against Liverpool at Emirates

In the recent FA Cup third-round clash between Arsenal and Liverpool, former Arsenal player Martin Keown expressed concern about Kai Havertz’s missed opportunities and apparent lack of ruthlessness. Despite numerous chances for Arsenal in the first half, Havertz failed to convert.

During a BBC commentary, Keown questioned Havertz’s aggression in attempting to score, noting his various positions throughout the game and stating, “Why’s he not coming on to that and hitting it?”

In contrast, Danny Murphy praised Havertz for his effective off-the-ball work and highlighted the success of Arsenal’s pressing game. Murphy remarked, “It’s working really well, Havertz leading that press. Rice has been superb in the middle of the pitch. You can see the intent. They kept taking their time.”

Despite the missed opportunities, Keown acknowledged Arsenal’s overall performance, describing their approach play as “magnificent” but emphasized the need for a more aggressive attitude. He stated, “You’ve got to really go for it. The approach play has been magnificent. This was four opportunities all at once.”

Kai Havertz, who recently joined Arsenal from Chelsea for £65 million, took some time to adapt to his new team. However, there have been positive signs, with Havertz scoring four goals in his last nine games leading up to the Liverpool fixture. Normally an attacking midfielder, he started up front against Liverpool due to the absence of the injured Gabriel Jesus.
