Former Liverpool Captain Jordan Henderson has broken his silence on his move to Chelsea

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has alleged that, despite the fact that the January transfer window is just a week old, club administrators have yet to talk with him who players to bring to Stamford Bridge this winter.
After spending more than £1 billion in the last few transfer windows since the arrival of new owner and chairman Todd Boehly and his BlueCo. consortium in May 2022, the Blues have only let go of young players on loan or seen those already away from the team return on a short-term basis in order to find them new homes.
Youngster Alex Matos’ outstanding cameos under the Argentine boss have landed him a six-month contract at Huddersfield Town, while Andrey Santos’ catastrophic stay at Nottingham Forest has resulted in the star notching only seven minutes of Premier League football away from Chelsea this season.
A promising young left-back Zak Sturge has also been recalled from his loan at Peterborough United, albeit it is believed that this is also to find him a better suitable club. However, while there has been talk of out-of-favour Ian Maatsen and possibly acting captain Conor Gallagher leaving the Blues in January, there hasn’t been much in the opposite direction – a surprise given how Chelsea have frequently functioned in recent years.
As reports claim that England international and former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is unhappy in Saudi Arabia following his summer move to Al-Ettifaq and may seek a return to the Premier League, the calls for bringing in an experienced outfielder or two have been louder than in previous window given the young, raw nature of this Chelsea squad.
Pochettino was asked about bringing Henderson to Stamford Bridge during his post-match press conference. “To be honest, we didn’t talk about names,” he said. We are not currently discussing the possibility of bringing in players. I noticed Behdad [Eghbali] with Paul [Winstanley] and Laurence [Stewart] in the manager’s room.
“I believe we’ll talk tomorrow because we’ll be on the practice pitch.” We didn’t discuss names or positions, and we didn’t discuss bringing in players. For the time being, we’re focusing on players like Andrey Santos to see what we can do.”
While many may be concerned that Chelsea’s manager has yet to really delve into what kind of players he wants to bring into a side that has struggled to find consistency in recent times, it may not be a completely negative sign that the club is taking a more relaxed approach to things this month.
It’s easy to get caught up in the frenzy of the January transfer window, especially if you’re competing with another club to sign a player – but it doesn’t appear the Blues are in that situation. While deals like Ivan Toney or Victor Osimhen are unlikely to be completed in the next three weeks for logistical and financial reasons, it may be beneficial for a club that has spent hundreds of millions on potential talent to take a step back, analyse, and then make a controlled, smart decision.
