Chelsea have announced their first signing under new manager Enzo Maresca, bringing in defender Tosin Adarabioyo on a four-year deal. The 26-year-old, who has been with Fulham, will officially join the Blues on July 1, following the expiration of his contract with Fulham.

Adarabioyo’s addition bolsters Chelsea’s defense, joining recent center-back recruits like Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, and Axel Disasi. His arrival comes as veteran defender Thiago Silva departs for Fluminense, marking a significant move to strengthen Chelsea’s backline. The club highly values Adarabioyo’s composure with the ball and his strength in aerial duels.

Starting his career at Manchester City, Adarabioyo spent 17 years at the club before moving to Fulham to secure more playing time. Over four years at Craven Cottage, he established himself as a reliable central defender, drawing interest from various clubs, including Newcastle United.

Despite being offered a lucrative contract extension by Fulham, Adarabioyo chose to join Chelsea. Expressing his enthusiasm about the transfer, he said, “Chelsea is a huge club and this is a full-circle moment for me. I was born three miles from Stamford Bridge and made my professional debut there. I’m very excited and looking forward to helping push the club in the direction we want to go. Growing up, Chelsea has always been a club that performed well and had great players and teams to watch. Chelsea have won big trophies, and long may it continue. I’m here to win. I want to win. It’s as simple as that. I want to keep working and pushing the team and the club in the direction we want to go. I’m excited to get going.”

Adarabioyo made 132 appearances for Fulham after joining them in 2020 from Manchester City, where he had loan spells at West Bromwich Albion and Blackburn Rovers. His extensive experience and solid performances make him a valuable addition to Chelsea as they aim for further success.
