VERY Sad Mouricio Pochettino news has been announced this evening after Middlesbrough 1: 0 Defea

It doesn’t look good for Mauricio Pochettino’s future at Chelsea. The owners have said they back him fully, but that might not matter for much longer.

Chelsea had a brief comeback after losing 2-0 to Everton on December 10th. They went on to win five of their next six games in all competitions, but on Tuesday night they lost 1-0 to Middlesbrough in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

Boro played better than Chelsea in the first half of their trip to the Riverside Stadium. In the second half, Chelsea couldn’t break down Michael Carrick’s team because they sat deep and took the pressure.

Surprisingly, it happened in almost every Chelsea game this season: they played badly in the first half and were outplayed, then had a tough second half where they didn’t pose much of a threat against a strong block.

Chelsea had 72% of the ball against Middlesbrough, but only 5 of their 18 shots were on goal, and they didn’t create a good chance in the second half because Middlesbrough stayed deep.

Pochettino had a hard time with deep blocks at PSG, and his tactical know-how hasn’t helped Chelsea make chances against teams that sit on the edge of their goal area either.

The problem has been around for a long time, but Pochettino is the one who is getting the most attention right now, so he is the one who is responsible.

Of course, things would have been very different if Cole Palmer had scored one of the three great chances he missed in the first 45 minutes, but Chelsea just weren’t good enough against Championship teams in the middle of the table.

Mauricio Pochettino is going to be fired?

As of now, Chelsea is 10th in the Premier League table. They will have to make a comeback in the second game of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Boro on January 23.

It’s likely that Pochettino will still be in charge when Carrick’s team goes to Stamford Bridge in two weeks, but if they don’t make it to the Carabao Cup final, he could lose his job.

Since Todd Boehly bought Chelsea in 2022, there has been a lot of change. Firing Pochettino might not be the answer, but it’s clear that he’s not living up to standards.

In the last 18 months, the west London club has spent well over €1 billion on transfers. Even though they have a big injury problem right now, Chelsea’s starting lineup against Middlesbrough cost a whopping €464.2m (Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill, and Conor Gallagher were all free) and should have easily won.

Instead, they lied to trick people, and Pochettino is now facing real questions about his future as head coach of Chelsea.

The Blues have lost nine games this season across all divisions. They have only won thirteen, and four of those wins came against teams from lower leagues.

There is no doubt that Pochettino is to blame for Chelsea’s poor play this season, even though they have the most expensive team in football.

The Blues are having trouble because there aren’t many good managers out there. That fact might help Pochettino keep his job for a little while longer, but Chelsea fans are getting impatient.
