VERY SAD Bruno Fernandes news has been announced this evening as Manchester United Manager Erik Ten Hag has stripped him off the Captain Batch and the new Captain has been named
Bruno Fernandes was sent off for the second time in a row during Manchester United’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Porto on Thursday.
Erik ten Hag’s difficulties worsened as they squandered a two-goal lead and then lost their skipper with less than 10 minutes remaining while pursuing an equalizer. Fernandes’ red card against Tottenham was eventually overturned, but he has now been banned twice in four days.
Fortunately for United, Fernandes will be available for the trip to Aston Villa on Sunday. According to UEFA regulations, anyone who receives a red card is ineligible for the following match in a UEFA club competition. This means that the 30-year-old will miss the Europa League match against Fenerbahce later this month.
Fernandes received a red card for two bookable offenses against Porto. Both were for high boots, with the second occurring as he attempted to turn the ball into the back of the goal. The dismissal has not been classified as a’serious offence’ by UEFA, thus he will be eligible for the two games against Aston Villa and Brentford before traveling to Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbache on Thursday, October 24.
United got off to a brilliant start at Estadio do Dragao, taking a 2-0 lead due to goals from Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund. However, they gave up their lead, and Porto turned the game on its head, with Pepe Aquino equalizing and Samu Omorodion scoring twice to put them ahead.
When Fernandes was sent off in the 81st minute, everything looked to be falling apart, but Harry Maguire came to the rescue with a stoppage-time equalizer to salvage a 3-3 draw. “We started the game well, dominated and scored two nice goals, but then we lost control,” Ten Hag stated after the game.
“So the beginning was good, the middle was not so good, and we concluded extremely well. It is a difficult place to go, but coming back from 3-2 gives us a boost of confidence. You can tell that the team has a pretty strong spirit, but in the center, we need to enhance our defense.”
