VAR has explained why they didn’t give penalty for Odegaard’s handball!
During a very important game between Liverpool and Arsenal, something important happened that left both Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher confused for Liverpool. Martin Odegaard of Arsenal was involved in the situation, and there was a possible handball that the referees didn’t see.
Odegaard’s free kick set Arsenal up for an early lead through Gabriel Magalhaes’ header, but the Norwegian midfielder caused a stir in the middle of the first half.
As Mohamed Salah tried to flick the ball on, it hit Odegaard in the hand, which looked like a clear case for a penalty. The handball was missed by referee Chris Kavanagh, which let Arsenal start a counterattack. Even though David Coote used VAR, the decision not to give Liverpool a penalty stood. This made Neville, who used to play defence for Manchester United, comment on Odegaard’s good luck.
At halftime, Sky Sports showed the official explanation from PGMOL, which said that the incident did not meet the standards of “not a clear and obvious error” because Odegaard’s arm was moving towards his body and not the ball as he went down. This made sense because Odegaard’s arm was said to have moved towards him instead of the ball as he fell.
Even though the call was questionable, Liverpool came back before halftime. Salah scored an amazing individual goal in the 29th minute, setting up a crucial second half in this high-stakes match.
