“They are certain that he should not return to Manchester United and that he should play poorly. What Mason Greenwood said in order to receive a red card in the match between Getafe and Rayo was, “It’s funny how they want him to go back to prison

Three Getafe players were sent off in the team’s 2-0 La Liga loss to Rayo Vallecano, including Mason Greenwood. During the contentious exchange, Damian Suarez, Juanmi Latasa, and the Manchester United loanee all received their marching orders.

For what at first glance appeared to be very little, Greenwood received a straight red card, but what did the young player say to the referee?

After receiving a second yellow card in the 40th minute while on loan from Real Madrid, Latasa was the first player to receive an early shower. Sergio Camello helped Rayo Vallecano take the lead shortly after, silencing the Wanda Metropolitano.Just as the first period was coming to a finish, Camello increased his total for the game, giving the visitors a two-goal lead. Greenwood received the only straight red card of the game in the 50th minute, and Suarez—who had previously been substituted—joined him when he was sent off. At first glance, the incident that resulted in Greenwood’s dismissal didn’t seem to involve much, but why did the referee make this decision?

Mason Greenwood received a harsh red card for his disapproval.

His team was already behind 2-0.

The Getafe winger felt he had been fouled after attempting to get past two position players. Greenwood became immobile as a result, and he became enraged with the referee when he did not receive a free kick.

The match reporter for the day, Jorge Figueroa Vasquez, clarified the event in his match report when it wasn’t apparent what Greenwood had said to him to warrant a straight red card. The official match report claims that the English forward was so angry that he yelled at Vasquez, “F*** you.” The Daily Mail reported that the official post-match response was as follows:

Mason Will John, the 12th player from Greenwood, was substituted off in the 50th minute for the following reason: he raised his arm and gestured disrespectfully towards me, saying, “F*** you.”

Although the player is alleged to have denied the accusation, if the referee’s statement is believed to be accurate, Greenwood may be suspended for four matches for his outburst. For the second half of the season, the 22-year-old will be trying to regain his form, however it is still unclear when he will play again.

The shaft of Mason Greenwood at Getafe

A Man United loanee is having a disappointing season in La Liga.

With just five goals in 16 appearances in the first half of the 2023–24 season during his temporary move from Manchester United, Greenwood may not have thrilled everyone, but he has restored his reputation in the football world after an 18-month absence due to non-football-related issues.

Though his future in the game is uncertain, he has demonstrated the ability to regain a steady rhythm and perform well enough to be considered for a top team after missing so many months of play. After receiving negative feedback on social media, Man United quickly decided to send the young player out on loan rather than reintegrating him into the first team in the summer of 2023.
