The fans don’t see it, you guys don’t see it, but I think the way the manager works on the pitch, the things he does with us, it’s only going to get better.”-Cole Palmer responds to Chelsea transfer criticism after Newcastle United win

Cole Palmer believes Chelsea’s team is packed with talent following their 3-2 triumph over Newcastle United on Monday evening.

Palmer was named Man of the Match following another pivotal performance at Stamford Bridge, when he assisted and scored a stunning goal from the edge of the box.

Chelsea has faced widespread criticism for the state of its team, having spent more than £1 billion on new acquisitions during Todd Boehly’s tenure at Stamford Bridge.

The club has received requests from supporters to invest more money in the summer transfer window in order to improve, but Palmer is certain that the present group will prove naysayers wrong.

‘We’ve had some difficult results – obviously the [Carabao] Cup final against Liverpool, Wolves, many games – so getting points is essential for us.’ Palmer spoke to Sky Sports following the win over Newcastle.

‘I believe we’ve shown a little bit of fire, courage, winning the second balls, not getting bullied, and just having the courage to play because I think that’s what we need as a young squad; we’re going to make mistakes, everyone is going to make mistakes, and it’s about moving on to the next one.’

When asked about the criticism Chelsea has received this season, Palmer responded, ‘I think there’s so much quality at Chelsea.

‘The spectators don’t see it, and neither do you, but I believe the way the manager works on the pitch and with us can only improve.

‘I’m confident, if not next season, the season after, it’s a project, everyone’s young, and everyone’s wanting to play well, so I believe you’ll see it sooner or later.’

In a separate interview with Stadium Astro, Palmer was asked if he believes Chelsea needs more signings to progress.

However, the former Manchester City forward is certain that Chelsea can progress with their current group.

‘There is a lot of quality there, not just myself,’ Palmer explained.

‘We have a lot of other players, so perhaps the team can gel a little better than everyone has seen.’
