Following a bad run of form, AS Roma has fired head coach Jose Mourinho.
Roma has only won one of their last six Serie A games and is currently ninth in the league. Mourinho, who is liked by Roma fans, was fired.
Daniele De Rossi, a former captain of Roma, is set to take over as Mourinho’s temporary replacement. At the end of the season, Roma hopes to hire Antonio Conte, a former manager of Chelsea, as their regular manager.
“We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and hard work since he joined the club,” Roma said in a statement.
“We will always have fond memories of his time at Roma, but we think that a change needs to happen right away for the club’s sake.”
“We wish Jose and his helpers the best of luck in everything they do from now on.”
They hired Mourinho in 2021 and he was there for two and a half years. They won the Europa Conference League title in 2022 thanks to the 60-year-old’s leadership.
Mourinho also led them to the final of the Europa League last year, but Sevilla beat them on penalties.
