Victor Osimhen is a footballer who has been connected with a move to Chelsea as Enzo Maresca seeks to bolster his team ahead of the new season, which begins in just a few weeks.
Chelsea has been linked to the Napoli striker for quite some time. He has a £110 million release clause in his contract, signed little over six months ago, and Napoli expects to get the whole amount if he leaves this summer.
It has been speculated that Chelsea might use Romelu Lukaku as leverage to reduce the price in a prospective swap trade. According to recent reports, the Blues are aiming to ‘advance’ their interest in Osimhen after originally opting not to make a deal.
Chelsea may face competition from French club Paris Saint-Germain. Fabrizio Romano says that discussions between the club and Osimhen’s side are progressing, with the player eager to join PSG if a deal can be reached.
If Osimhen’s words from earlier this year are any indication, he may be open to heading to Stamford Bridge. While on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Nigeria in January, the attacker told CBS Sports, “At the conclusion of the season, I think I’ve already made up my mind.”
“I already know what I want to accomplish with my job; since I started, I’ve been making my own decisions, and everything has worked out nicely for me. Even though I started it, things didn’t proceed as anticipated.
“But I already have a plan; I know what I want to do and the next step I want to take. So, for now, all I want to do is finish the season strong, go rest somewhere with my kid, and then make the choice I’ve already made.
Comments made earlier this summer by Napoli manager Antonio Conte also indicate that the club expects the player to leave this summer. “I know what the issue is with Osimhen,” he stated.
“I understand that there are agreements and that this is a unique scenario. I can only assist. He is a top-tier player, excellent, but I cannot discuss it since it is part of past agreements that have been explicitly conveyed to me.”
