“My Dream was always to play for Manchester United but I was forced out of the club-I will return to Manchester United on one condition”

Sebastian Kehl, Borussia Dortmund’s sports director, said it would be too expensive for the team to sign Jadon Sancho permanently from Manchester United while he is on loan.

During his first time at Dortmund, from 2017 to 2021, Sancho became one of the best wingers in Europe. Last month, he returned to Germany on a temporary deal after a fight with Erik ten Hag and being shut out of Manchester.

As Sancho has already said, rejoining Dortmund is like being “home.” He also said that this was something that was on his mind a lot while he was at United. But Kehl said that the Bundesliga team probably won’t be able to afford to buy him in the summer, so his time there might not last. Dortmund is in the same situation with Chelsea left back Ian Maatsen, who is on loan from Dortmund.

According to Kehl, both players were disappointed that neither choice was a good one.

He also said, “If you know what we got for Jadon Sancho two and a half years ago, then you know that it might not be very, very hard.” He was talking to the £73 million move to England.

“We naturally advocated for a [permanent] option on him – and also with Ian – but the negotiating position was not such that we could implement it and so we will accept it for now.”

There was an option to buy that was part of the deal, but United didn’t include it. If he played like his old self at Dortmund, his value could go through the roof again. This is a strategy the club has used before with loan deals, most famously when Alexis Sanchez joined Inter in 2019.

Since August, Sancho hasn’t played for United. In just three weeks, he’s already played more minutes in the Bundesliga than in the Premier League in five months. The 23-year-old played his first two games and set up goals as Dortmund beat Darmstadt and Koln. He missed Friday’s draw with Heidenheim because of an injury, though.
