Manchester United Manager Erig Ten Hag broke down in tears as another Key Manchester United player goes off injured during International break training this morning, a very sad moment for Man U fans as the injury seems to be a career ending injury
Luke Shaw, a Manchester United defender, has joined up with England to complete his recuperation from a muscle injury.
Shaw suffered a new muscle injury in last month’s win over Luton Town, and it has been confirmed that he could be missing for the rest of the season as a result.
United issued a brief statement saying: “Luke Shaw has sustained a muscle injury and will be out for an extended period of time.” Further evaluation is required to ascertain the severity, although we anticipate he will be away for several months.”
Shaw has began therapy on his injury at Carrington, and while he was unable to be picked in the England squad for the international break, he has been invited to St. George’s Park to complete his recuperation around the England camp, so he can still participate.
The defender has been first-choice at left-back for much of Gareth Southgate’s tenure as England manager, and he scored the Three Lions’ sole goal in the Euro 2020 Final.
Southgate was recently asked if Shaw’s prospects of making the England squad for this summer’s Euros in Germany are doubtful. He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Well, we’d have to say yes since the timeframes indicate he’ll only be available at the end of the season. You’re not sure whatever version of the player you’ll get.”
Southgate also discussed how difficult it is to play in a large competition like the Euros and the athleticism required. He stated, “Clearly, going into a seven-game tournament… one of the great things we’ve been able to learn in two of the three tournaments we’ve played in, we’ve played all seven matches, and the physical demands that that brings are noticeable.”
“We might have everybody that’s currently injured back and available but how fit and how match fit and how robust to get through a tournament, we’re going to have to work that out as well in the next few months.”
If Shaw’s rehabilitation goes well, he might return to United before the end of the season, increasing his chances of playing for England in summer.
The 28-year-old made his England debut in 2014 and has earned 31 senior caps.
