Manchester United is Set to Sign Barcelona Star Frenkie de Jong in a £80million move next summer
If Barcelona and the Dutch midfielder cannot agree on a new deal, they may soon consider selling Frenkie de Jong.
De Jong has long been connected to a transfer to Manchester United, but that deal has not happened as of yet. If his long-term future at Barcelona cannot be guaranteed, De Jong may leave the team early in the summer of 2019.
The 2026 contract for the Ajax Academy graduate has two years left on it, and his employers are aggressively trying to extend it. According to Spanish publication SPORT, De Jong has not responded to Barcelona’s offer of an extension, and if he rejects the deal, the club will attempt to transfer him in June.
Ronald Araujo, a defender for Barcelona and another player with whom United has been extensively associated, is in a similar scenario as he has “not accepted” the conditions on offer and is scheduled to depart the club in 2026.
The midfield tandem of Pedri and Gavi, who are both “totally committed to continue” at the club, are now Barcelona’s top priorities. If De Jong decides not to commit, these players may wind up shoving him out the door.
According to the aforementioned story, the Netherlands international has been “tempted” by United, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain. He was questioned about his future throughout the summer amid rumors that Erik ten Hag was attempting to get back together with his old teammate.
“Are you staying at Barcelona? Without a doubt, I am thrilled to be with my family in Barcelona,” De Jong stated. Hansi Flick wants me to play a major role. I had a conversation with him. It was enjoyable.
Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona, remarked, “Leaving Barcelona would be the last thing he would desire.” He has expressed his happiness to me several times that he is here.
“We are thrilled to have him. We cannot go against a player’s desire to go, and I am not concerned about anyone. Nonetheless, I believe that everyone wants to stay and that we want everyone to stay. Since no team in history has been a passing fad, we do not want any of them to depart.”
