Man United manager Erik ten Hag has blamed Manchester United star for Draw against Aston Villa

When Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp implied that Manchester United had benched Marcus Rashford as a punishment, Erik ten Hag, the manager of the team, called it “not right.”

After starting all six of United’s games this season, Rashford was left off the roster for their goalless draw with Crystal Palace. Before the game, Ten Hag made it clear that he was rotating Rashford, who had netted three goals in his previous two outings, pointing to the play of fellow wingers Alejandro Garnacho and Amad.

Rashford needs to become more disciplined and professional, according to Ten Hag, who discussed this during Thursday’s pre-game news conference. Before the game began, Redknapp, one of the commentators for Sky’s broadcast, stated: “It feels like something went wrong… It is evident that something has occurred.”

Ten Hag seemed to make reference to Redknapp’s unfounded assertion at his post-match press conference, saying, “Some analysts are already making wild claims. If you do not know what is going on, I would almost suggest that you are not alright as a person when you make such wild assumptions.

“This is only a rotation. We have a lot of games to cover and more than 11 starting players, but we also need to give every player the opportunity to perform. In the end, we will find out, and the ones who do better will undoubtedly play more.

“But this is unrelated; overall, Marcus performs really well; I am pleased with his defense and offensive play, both of which he is now scoring. There was nothing to do but rotate while he was on the bench.

“I have to add that Amad is playing really well, and I also have to mention that Garnacho has finished every game so far, with the possible exception of Liverpool. We also need to play them.”

After branding Alan Shearer’s assessment of the United striker on Match of the Day as “dumb,” Ten Hag has now taken aim at Redknapp, the pundit who has criticized Rashford the most in the past three weeks.

At Selhurst Park, United had many opportunities in the first half, hitting the crossbar twice and forcing six saves from match MVP Dean Henderson. Palace produced what were undoubtedly the greatest opportunities of the match thanks to the reprieves.

“After the first half, we left them alive. In and out of custody,” Ten Hag continued. “We performed admirably in the game. I only have one criticism: we should have scored, but we were not clinical or decisive enough in the box. The first half ended with them still alive.

“It is fair to say that both sides had their opportunities and that the second half was more equal.”
