Josko Gvardiol reveals what really happened with Man City penalty debacle as defender misses out on Premier League history

Josko Gvardiol outlines what transpired with Man City’s penalty disaster as defender misses out on Premier League history.

Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol explained why he turned down the chance to take a penalty against Fulham after previously scoring two goals.

Gvardiol has been in outstanding goal-scoring form as City move in on a fourth consecutive Premier League title.

The defender has five goals in his previous seven games, including two when City defeated Fulham 4-0 to reclaim the Premier League lead.

However, when given the opportunity to score a third penalty, the former RB Leipzig player delegated responsibility to the club’s more frequent taker Julian Alvarez.

That was despite the fact that Gvardiol was only one successful penalty kick away from creating Premier League history, since no defender has ever scored a hat-trick since the league’s start.

Speaking to TNT Sport about the event, he said: “Another two goals, I’m pleased. Of course, a clean slate. We were talking about my taking the penalty.

“I answered, of course, I’d want to accept it, but we know who the taker is, and he does. So Julian ended up scoring the goal, and I’m glad he did.”

Gvardiol responded to his atypical recent relentlessness in front of goal, saying, “No, it’s natural. It’s usual in sports.

“I’m in terrific shape right now, and the season is coming to a finish. Three more finals. We have to be ready.
