City will bid £22 million for Argentine “talent” who is leaving in 2022.
Man City is rumoured to be going to make an offer of £22 million to buy Claudio Echeverri, a young Midfielder from Argentina.
It was said earlier this month that City was one of the top teams trying to sign Echeverri and that they were hopeful of getting the youngster.
River Plate is where Echeverri plays football now; Julian Alvarez used to play there.
Alvarez has been great for City since he arrived at the Etihad Stadium, so it’s clear that the deal worked out well for them.
If City signs Echeverri, it looks like they might be trying to pull off the same trick again…

Cesar Merlo, a journalist, says that City are now trying to see how determined River Plate is to keep Echeverri.
A team is planning to make an offer of £22 million for the attacking midfielder. Echeverri will be sent on loan to River for six to twelve months by the club.
Of course, City did this with Alvarez.
The club signed the shooter, but they left him at River Plate until the summer of 2022, when he joined City’s first team.
In the end, this was a smart move by the club because Alvarez was able to keep playing regularly and improve before moving to Manchester.
Interestingly, Echeverri, who has been called “talented” by Xavi, recently played his first game for River against Rosario Central. After the game, the 17-year-old said, “I’m not going to sign a new deal, but for 6 months or a year I’ll stay.”
City might be able to get a great deal on Echeverri since his current deal with River ends in December 2024.
Is that another Julian Alvarez?
This makes me think of the deal City made for Julian Alvarez.
To be clear, Alvarez also played for River. After City signed him, he stayed at the club to continue his growth.
The player turned out to be a great addition, and maybe Echeverri can be the same kind of success.
There was news last week from writer Fabrizio Romano that Echeverri was also being looked at by Chelsea and Barcelona.
There may be other teams interested in the young player, but City will definitely think they have the best chance of getting him. They are sure to use the Alvarez trip to show Echeverri why they should hire them.
