Former Manchester United Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to become the new manager of European giants
According to a source, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the former manager of Manchester United, may go back to work for Turkish powerhouse Besiktas.
Since leaving the Red Devils in November 2021, Solskjaer has not had a job, though he has been connected to a number of roles after leaving Old Trafford.
The Norwegian is rumoured to be taking a new job at Besiktas, who recently split with manager Riza Calimbay.
Besiktas has’started negotiations’ with Solskjaer to replace Calimbay, who departed with the team in fifth place in the Super Liga standings, according to NTV Spor.
This month, Besiktas has not won in domestic play; they have drawn with Ankaragucu and lost to Fenerbahce and Alanyaspor, their city rivals. In the Europa Conference League, they were likewise thrashed 5-0 at home by Club Brugge; however, they defeated Lugano 2-0 on the last day of play to secure the third position in their group.
2008 saw Solskjaer take command of United’s Under-21 team, a position he left to take on the role of coach at Molde in his home Norway three years later.
After an unsuccessful and brief stint at Cardiff City in 2014, he returned to the UK and eventually returned to Molde in 2015. After Jose Mourinho was fired by United in December 2018, Solskjaer was first brought in as a caretaker manager on a lesser-known loan. In March 2019, once they turned things around, he was given the position permanently.
During his tenure in the United dugout, Solskjaer received accolades for his man management skills and impressive record in important games, but he also faced criticism for his failure to break the team’s trophy drought. The club signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, and Jadon Sancho in a blockbuster summer 2021, but the Red Devils were unable to get off the ground and Solskjaer was fired early in the season.
For the balance of the 2021–2022 season, Ralf Rangnick will lead United in an acting capacity. Solskjaer kindly provided him with a frank evaluation of the playing team. In April 2022, Erik ten Hag was then introduced as the team’s long-term manager.
