Former Man United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has been appointed as the manager of shocking Premier League Club this evening

After a year away from the game, Manchester United icon Edwin van der Sar has made hints about maybe returning.

Once his playing career came to an end, the former goalie entered the boardroom at Ajax. Van der Sar began his career as the director of marketing for the Amsterdam team in 2012, then moved to sporting CEO in 2015 before rising to head CEO in 2016.

Following Erik ten Hag’s relocation to Old Trafford, Ajax’s campaign deteriorated, therefore the Dutchman declared he would be leaving this position in the summer of 2023. The 53-year-old was sent to hospital with a brain hemorrhage shortly later, but has since recovered completely.

Van der Sar said on Instagram following a year away from sport that he could be poised to make a limited comeback in some manner. He said: “Today marks precisely one year since I announced my resignation from Ajax’s CEO post.

“I appreciate the friendly goodbye from every one of my coworkers. Serving this club first as a player and then as CEO has been one of the greatest blessings of my life.

“Although there were difficult periods as well, which are inevitable on every road, this period is full with unique events. I think back on the amazing individuals and the lifelong memories therein. All exquisitely captured on one picture.

“I had time in the past term to heal and consider with my friends and relatives. Near future fresh adventures and experiences are only waiting for us. Thanks everyone.

Van der Sar is unlikely to be hired by United should he choose to go back into football as a CEO. Recently Omar Berrada was hired by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe to cover this position.

Thanks to his achievements during six years at Old Trafford, Van der Sar is known to be always greeted warmly by United fans.
