Declan Rice is the cause of our defeat why ordinary Chelsea can beat us 5-0-David Moyes blamed Declan Rice after West Ham’s 5-0 defeat to Chelsea!
Following West Ham’s 5-0 defeat at Chelsea on Sunday, David Moyes blamed Declan Rice’s absence for the club’s significant away losses this season.
West Ham produced a dismal first-half performance, with Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher, and Noni Madueke putting Chelsea three goals ahead before halftime, before Nicolas Jackson scored twice after the break.
West Ham’s defeat at Stamford Bridge marked the sixth time they have surrendered four or more goals on the road this season, and their fifth loss in six away games in all competitions.
Moyes feels Rice’s departure, who joined Arsenal for £105 million last summer, is a major reason for his team’s dismal defensive record this season. West Ham have surrendered 70 Premier League goals thus far, the highest by a Moyes-managed team in a single season.
When asked why West Ham had suffered large defeats away from home this season following the 5-0 loss at Chelsea, Moyes responded: “Declan Rice.”
‘You have the best midfield player in the country, defending, ensuring that you restrict maybe 50% of the assaults and situations, and when you achieve that, you become a lot superior defensive team.
‘We’ve lacked protection in front of the back four, we’ve lacked adequate defending, and we’ve just not been good enough on those fronts in many games.
‘But, you know, as I’ve said, you have to be careful; you’re talking about a team that is in a really, very good situation. We’ve had a few of poor days away from home; we need to attempt to fix that and make things better.
‘As I have stated, I am attempting to instill some mental toughness where necessary. It is usually present in the teams for which I prepare. You can always lose in the same way.
To be honest, Chelsea are in a good spot right now. We’ve struck the crossbar three times today, and Emerson missed a sitter, so if the game had gone 5-3, you may have said, “Hey, West Ham had a decent shot.” What was a couple of inches on each side is an easy thing to say, but we’ve come here with a few opportunities, but we haven’t been able to perform the fundamentals defensively to give ourselves a chance to remain in the game.
‘This very same team drew 2-2 with Liverpool last week.’
When questioned about managers who have previously been connected with his job, Moyes responded: “I’m going to talk to the board at the conclusion of the season, so we’ll do that then.”
