Former Chelsea star is set to leave Barcelona on a free transfer this summer
Alonso will be able to leave Barcelona for free at the end of the season, having spent two years with the Catalan giants.
The 33-year-old has had a tough season with injuries. He hurt his back in December and hasn’t played in La Liga since October.
The Spain international moved from Chelsea to Barcelona in 2022 and played a lot in his first season, making 37 appearances in all categories and winning La Liga.
The full-back got a new deal in January of last year that keeps him with the team until the summer of 2024.
His original deal was for one year. But the injuries have cost him, and according to trade expert Fabrizio Romano, his time at the Camp Nou will end this summer.
Alonso came back from an injury and sat on the bench for Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Las Palmas in La Liga on March 30, wanting to finish his time at the club on a high note. The next game for Xavi’s team is a Champions League quarterfinal against PSG, which will begin in Paris on April 10.
