According to sources in Germany, Thomas Tuchel is open to making a surprise comeback to Chelsea this summer.
Bayern Munich has already confirmed that Tuchel will leave the club at the conclusion of the season, following less than two full seasons in command.
Chelsea, meanwhile, must make a decision on Mauricio Pochettino’s future after fans demanded his dismissal following their 2-2 draw with Brentford last Saturday.
According to SportBild, Tuchel prefers to return to the Premier League after leaving Bayern, and the 50-year-old is monitoring the situation at various clubs.
According to the report, Tuchel had considered Manchester United as a potential destination, but now feels Erik ten Hag will be in charge for another season.
Tuchel is thought to be eager to return to Chelsea this summer provided the club’s co-owner, Todd Boehly, is able to set aside their earlier disagreements, which led to his resignation from Stamford Bridge in September 2022.
Tuchel is said to have become irritated once Boehly joined the club, and the German even called his relationship with Chelsea’s new owners as ‘heated’ just a few months before his dismissal.
Tuchel confessed that leaving Chelsea a year ago’still hurt’.
‘It was a shock for all of us,’ Tuchel explained.
‘We felt we were in the right place at the right time to accomplish great things, build, and stay longer. We had strong relationships among the personnel. It still aches not to see these people on a daily basis.
‘I adore this job; I’m passionate about it. There is no funnier location than a dressing room; delight and nice jokes. That’s what I miss most.
‘We formed an exceptional friendship as a result of the circumstances; we began during COVID, moved to Brexit, and then changed ownership. We were a formidable group on the practice pitch. “It felt like a family.”
