When the score was 0-1 to Manchester City, referee Anthony Taylor made an unusual judgment by not awarding a penalty to Chelsea following an apparent handball by Mateo Kovacic.

The Premier League Match Centre provided an official explanation for it, and it is simply ridiculous. According to the Match Centre, VAR “confirmed the referee’s decision of no penalty, determining the ball came from close proximity.”

However, close proximity should play no factor here, as the position of Kovacic’s hand in this instance was utterly abnormal – implying that Chelsea was robbed by the officials on the first matchday.
