Erik ten Hag highlights turning point for Alejandro Garnacho at Man Utd

Erik ten Hag praised Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho’s progress, crediting his improved performances to overcoming prior hurdles with his approach.
Garnacho, who is 19 years old, recently demonstrated his abilities with a magnificent overhead kick goal against Everton, garnering comparisons to Wayne Rooney’s historic strike against Manchester City. Furthermore, he assisted Scott McTominay’s game-winning goal against Chelsea, demonstrating his growing influence on the field.
Ten Hag emphasised the learning curve for young players in adapting to the lifestyle of a professional footballer when discussing Garnacho’s development. Despite initial attitude concerns, the decision to bring him into the team at the start of the season was made to give him time to develop.
Recognising Garnacho’s potential, Ten Hag expressed satisfaction with the winger’s development, applauding both his defensive efforts and his rising influence in the attacking side, demonstrating attributes such as important actions, goal threat, and assisting ability, all of which are essential for an offensive player.
Ten Hag reflected on Garnacho’s past, recalling earlier concerns of the player’s commitment and behaviour, particularly his tardiness to training sessions. However, the youngster’s desire to progress was palpable, resulting in a new five-year deal in April and establishing himself as a regular member of United’s first-team system.
Garnacho made an impression on the international level after joining United’s academy from Atletico Madrid in 2020. He earned three senior caps for Argentina. His steady performances for both club and nation point to a growing role in which he might progress from cameo appearances to full 90-minute outings, further consolidating his presence on the pitch.
