England Manager Gareth Southgate has been appointed as the manager of Manchester United after the sacking for Erig Ten Hag this evening
Gareth Southgate has declared that he is “completely comfortable” regarding his future, amid speculations connecting him with Manchester United following Euro 2024.
Despite the fact that Erik ten Hag’s future is uncertain, the England manager has dismissed any possibility of talks with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the INEOS administration ahead of the tournament this summer.
Southgate is thought to be well appreciated by the new decision-makers at Old Trafford and would be a strong contender to replace Ten Hag. However, the 58-year-old has maintained his commitment to the national squad.
England are presently the odds-on favourites for Euro 2024, with Southgate leading a superb group that includes captain Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and Declan Rice, among others. These players are aware that this may be their manager’s final chance to win some silverware.
Southgate’s contract expires at the end of the year, and while his future is uncertain, the FA is expected to press for a renewal regardless of the outcome of this summer’s tournament. A return to club management is possible, but Southgate is just thinking about the short term.
“When I was 23 as a player, I would have been worried about that,” he told GQ when asked about his future ambitions. “When I was 37 and a young manager, I would have been concerned about it. But I’m 53 now and quite comfortable about it, since life will continue on whatever,” claims the Express, via GQ.
“I also don’t believe it would be appropriate to make a selection before a competition. I recall Fabio (Capello) signing a new deal before the World Cup in 2010, and everyone asked, “What the bloody hell are they doing?” He should be showing himself during the competition.
“If I were two years into the job, I may feel differently. But we’re eight years in, and my entire emphasis is on one thing: how can I get this squad to win?”
Southgate’s current situation may limit his chances of moving from England to United, as INEOS is unlikely to sit idle until the end of the Euros if they intend to release Ten Hag, whose destiny is set to be decided this week.
However, Southgate’s first priority will be directing England to European success, well aware that any victory may be credited to their nutrition.
“Meals are crucial,” he stated. “Not only do they recharge you, but they are also sociable. It’s like with my kids: anytime I’m with them, I want to eat as much as possible because that’s where you really get to see how they’re doing.
“That said, if you’ve ever gone on a family vacation for any length of time, there are a lot of people who may get on each other’s nerves after a while, so we are aware of that.”
