England FLOP manager Garath Southgate is set to become Manchester city manager if Pep Guardiola leaves this summer according to top reporters
Former England player Jermaine Jenas feels FA officials have reasons to be optimistic about their possible pursuit of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
Gareth Southgate’s decision to leave down as Three Lions manager following four major tournament campaigns, including back-to-back European Championship final disappointments, has left the FA with a difficult decision to make on who will lead the extremely talented squad.
Guardiola is apparently on the FA’s radar, and they are ready to wait until his contract expires in 2025. The Catalan has already voiced a desire to manage at the international level one day, although it is unlikely to be Spain, despite gaining 47 caps and captaining his country to Olympic gold in 1992.
Jenas, 41, feels England is one of four nations in the world that might potentially land Guardiola. “Pep is the top contender in my opinion since he is Catalan. He’s not going to coach Spain, which surprised me,” Jenas told Mirror Football before of the Formula E Grand Prix last weekend.
“Pep will manage at the international level one day. And the question is whether it will be Brazil, Portugal, England, or Germany. “He is going to do it at some time.”
Jenas says England want a manager who enjoys playing on the front foot. Names like Newcastle’s Eddie Howe and free agent Graham Potter have come up.
