England Boss Gareth Southgate is set to become the new manager of surprising Premier League club

Speaking candidly about his future in the wake of Erik Ten Hag’s departure, former England manager Gareth Southgate revealed his plans for Manchester United.

The 57-year-old resigned as manager of England following this summer’s Euro 2024 in Germany. Three years after losing to Italy on penalties in the last Euro final, the Three Lions took on Spain in the championship match, losing 2-1.

While many have applauded Southgate for bringing the England national team together, he has also come under fire for not having the Midas touch to lead them to their first major prize since 1966. Due to their mutual tenure at the FA, the former Middlesbrough manager is well-known to sports director Dan Ashworth, which has led to rumors of a future position at Old Trafford.

Southgate, though, has stated that he would not jump into his next position. At the European Club Association general conference, he declared, via the BBC’s Simon Stone, “I will not coach in the following year, for sure.”

“I have no doubt about that. I have to give myself time so that I can choose wisely. You must let your body and mind some downtime after finishing a truly large job.”

According to recent reports, Southgate and former United manager David Moyes will be present at matches as UEFA technical observers.

Technical observers are in charge of doing coaching-based match analysis and creating thorough reports that include statistics and video analysis. To help with their observations, they have access to a multitude of data sets, many camera perspectives, and state-of-the-art visualisation tools.

The role also involves identifying trends in football play, providing coaches and coach educators with a more holistic understanding of the game.
