Emi Martinez pours champagne over Unai Emery’s head as soon as Aston Villa secure Champions League football

Tottenham’s 2-0 loss to Manchester City meant that Aston Villa will play in the Champions League, and their celebrations were amazing.

With a game remaining, City would move two points clear of Arsenal atop the Premier League standings, and that seemed to be the center of attention around the Spurs match.

However, Villa was in the background, knowing full well that a loss to Spurs would guarantee them a spot in the Champions League the next year.

Despite winning the European Cup twice, in 1981 and 1982, the Villans have not been able to repeat as champions. This is their only European Cup victory.

Following Villa’s 3–3 draw with Liverpool on Monday, manager Unai Emery said his team needed to be focused on their last-day match in case the Champions League race went to the wire.

However, the Spaniard, his team, and the coaching staff assembled in a function room during their yearly awards ceremony to watch the Spurs game; as the outcome was known, the celebrations went berserk.

Martinez, one of the most well-known figures in the Premier League, quickly took center stage by dousing his boss with champagne.

In another scene, players were dancing on the table as Lucas Digne exclaimed, “Another one!” into the camera, realizing the magnitude of the club’s accomplishment.

Emery received a nomination earlier this month for the Premier League’s Manager of the Season award, and few supporters would be upset if the Spaniard won the coveted title at the conclusion of the season.

Sunday’s away trip to in-form Crystal Palace is Villa’s final game of the season. Although the fans will be hoping for a flawless finale, they can also feel secure in the knowledge that even a loss would not dash their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
