Manchester City News

Coming from Fabrizio Romano this morning Manchester City has just completed the signing of world-class Mexican Midfielder to replace Kelvin Phillips

Alex Alcala, a young Mexican international player, has been signed by Manchester City.

The 18-year-old player comes from LA Galaxy; the Blues used a buy option from a 2020 deal with the City Football Group to get him. It is likely that exciting midfielder Alcala will stay with the school for the rest of this season and the next, but he could also go on loan next season.

City is also almost done with a permanent deal to sign Claudio Echeverri, a 17-year-old midfielder from River Plate. This is likely to be their only big signing of the January window. When Chelsea signed Julian Alvarez in 2022, they let Echeverri stay with the Argentine club for at least six months. After that, they would decide what the best choice was.

Following his World Cup win with Argentina in December 2022, Alvarez led City to five major trophies in 2023. This has given the Blues hope that their recruiting efforts in South America, led by Joan Patsy, will lead to more success. The director of football for City Football Group in South America persuaded Chelsea to sign Alvarez in January 2022, when other teams were starting to notice how good he was. The £14m fee seems like one of the best deals in years.

City have also had a lot of success in Brazil. Gabriel Jesus made a big difference right away when he went from Palmeiras to Barcelona in Pep Guardiola’s first year as manager. Meanwhile, fullback Yan Couto is doing great for Girona, who are surprising everyone in La Liga.

January will only have one other big deal: Kalvin Phillips will be leaving for a while. Several Premier League clubs want to give him regular playing time before the Euros this summer, but City doesn’t have to let him go and won’t let him go on loan without getting paid for it.
