Bulls***!’ He needs to be on the bench if Chelsea wants to win trophy this Season- Alan Shearer ‘angry’ with Chelsea FLOP after an Awful performance yesterday against Leicester that almost cost them the FA Cup Semi Final

Alan Shearer expressed frustration and bewilderment following Raheem Sterling’s controversial decision to deny Cole Palmer a penalty during Chelsea’s thrilling FA Cup quarter-final win against Leicester City.

The match saw Chelsea take an early lead through Marc Cucurella’s goal, with an opportunity to extend their advantage when Sterling was brought down in the box midway through the first half.

Despite Palmer’s perfect penalty record for the season, Sterling intervened, leading to a saved spot-kick by Leicester’s goalkeeper, Jakub Stolarczyk. However, Palmer managed to score before halftime, but Leicester mounted a strong comeback after the break.

An own goal by Axel Disasi and a splendid equalizer from Stephy Mavididi reignited Leicester’s hopes, even as they were reduced to ten men. However, late goals from Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke secured Chelsea’s place in the semi-finals.

Shearer, speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, expressed disbelief at Sterling’s actions, questioning why he would override Palmer, who had been Chelsea’s standout performer and penalty specialist throughout the season.

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards suggested that Sterling might have been seeking a confidence boost by taking the penalty, a notion dismissed by Shearer as irrelevant given the significance of the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Arsenal veteran Martin Keown echoed Shearer’s sentiments, criticizing Sterling for disregarding Palmer’s authority. However, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino downplayed the incident, highlighting the players’ autonomy on the field and the strong bond between Sterling and Palmer.

Following their victory over Leicester, Chelsea was drawn against Premier League champions Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals, while Manchester United will face Championship side Coventry City in the other fixture.
