England and Chelsea Star will miss Euro 2024 after devastating news has been confirmed this morning

The latest report from The Athletic indicates that Sam Johnstone, England’s secondary goalkeeper, will be absent from Euro 2024 due to undergoing surgery on Wednesday morning. This unexpected development has left head coach Gareth Southgate surprised, as Johnstone becomes England’s first casualty of the tournament. Originally slated to accompany Jordan Pickford to the competition, Johnstone’s absence comes as a blow, especially considering his strong performance throughout the season for Crystal Palace, which had positioned him as a likely inclusion in Southgate’s final squad for the summer showdown in Germany.

Unfortunately, England finds itself grappling with multiple injuries, with Johnstone joining the likes of Harry Maguire and Kyle Walker, who also had to withdraw from Tuesday’s friendly match against Belgium. The trio’s departure from the England camp occurred on Sunday, further highlighting the team’s injury woes. Johnstone’s unfortunate mishap occurred during an England training session, where he inadvertently injured his elbow, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. The 31-year-old goalkeeper encountered the setback while attempting to make a save, an incident that will not only sideline him for Euro 2024 but also marks an abrupt end to his current campaign. As England navigates through these challenges, the absence of key players like Johnstone underscores the team’s need to adapt and regroup ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
