Jadon Sancho may come back to Manchester United, contingent on certain conditions
Jadon Sancho established himself as one of Europe’s top wingers during his first spell with Borussia Dortmund, which spanned 2017-2021. However, a falling out with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United resulted in his exclusion and temporary return to Germany last month.
Sancho has acknowledged his passion for Dortmund, comparing his return to a feeling of “home,” which stayed in his head during his time at United.
However, his stay may be short-lived, as Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, admitted financial limits that could prevent a permanent agreement for Sancho, similar to the scenario with on-loan Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen.
Kehl stated to Sky Sport Germany that getting permanent deals for Sancho and Maatsen is unrealistic due to financial constraints. This attitude is echoed by the huge amount Dortmund received for Sancho’s move to England, illustrating the difficulty of negotiating permanent moves.
Dortmund campaigned for a permanent option for Sancho, but the bargaining position did not favour their wishes, therefore they must accept the existing situation.
United chose not to include a buy option in the loan agreement, possibly betting on Sancho’s ability to recover his form at Dortmund, which might boost his market value.
This strategic method resembles previous loan deals, such as Alexis Sanchez’s move to Inter Milan in 2019.
Despite his paucity of minutes at United since August, Sancho has already played more Bundesliga minutes in three weeks than he has in five months in the Premier League.
He had an early impact for Dortmund, scoring assists in his first two games against Darmstadt and Koln, however he was ruled out of the following match against Heidenheim due to injury.
Given these events, Sancho’s loan term at Dortmund provides an opportunity for both player and club to rekindle their on-field synergy.
While his long-term future remains uncertain, his impressive start implies that he could play a key role in Dortmund’s campaign, potentially contributing to a large increase in his market worth.
As the season unfolds, Sancho’s achievements will surely be closely observed by both Dortmund and Manchester United, with the likelihood of his value increasing significantly if he continues to excel in the Bundesliga.
