“The mistake Pep Guardiola made was selling him off now he is one of the best stars in Europe and has more goals and Assist than Lionel Messi
Expert proposes “uncommon talent” One of the best young players in Europe was let go by Man City.
Martin Keown thinks Cole Palmer, who impressed for Chelsea after leaving Manchester City, is among the best young players in Europe right now.
Palmer was brilliant for Chelsea yesterday as they defeated Luton Town 3-2 at Kenilworth Road in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old helped the Blues earn three crucial points by scoring two goals and setting up Noni Madueke to score.
On the day of the transfer deadline, Palmer was acquired by Chelsea, who paid City a total of £42.5 million.
Palmer was eager for a new beginning, despite Pep Guardiola reportedly suggesting to him that he would receive more playing time at the Etihad Stadium after Riyad Mahrez’s departure.
His decision to relocate has proven wise thus far, and Martin Keown made some significant remarks about Palmer last night.
Palmer performed admirably for Chelsea yesterday.
After a shoddy clearing to him on the edge of the box, he gave the Blues the lead with a strong drive into the far corner.
Palmer’s second goal for Chelsea came after he set up Madueke’s goal with a stunning display of technique and poise.
He slid the ball over Thomas Kaminski after Nicolas Jackson had passed him through, then he cut in and finished between a couple of Luton players.
It was an excellent goal, and former Arsenal defender Martin Keown gave Palmer great marks on Match of the Day. “This man is a rare talent,” he remarked. A pleasure to see, he exudes style in everything he does. In a sense, he was the difference between the two teams.
“Everything is up for grabs, the vision is real.” He is a fantastic addition and has it all. I would definitely take him (to the Euros). Take a look at these numbers! These numbers put him among the top young players in Europe. He only recently truly got going since he left Manchester City to embark on that trip.
Palmer has eight goals and four assists for Chelsea so far in the Premier League; among players aged 21 and under in the top five leagues in Europe, only Jude Bellingham has contributed more goals.
Wonderful to see Palmer doing well
Palmer’s transition from Manchester City to Chelsea has been nothing short of spectacular, and you can only be happy for him.
It is not his fault that he made the decision to leave the Etihad to play more games. He didn’t get many opportunities at the Etihad Stadium.
Although his early showing does suggest Chelsea may have truly scored a deal, City paid a premium for him. Palmer has obviously had a great start for City, but it is too soon to say that he is a “regret.”
It would be great to see him get a spot on that England plane next summer, and maybe he can continue to flourish.
