Nobody can fill Jurgen Klopp’s shoes, but Xabi Alonso can go wherever he wants. If Liverpool are clever, they will ask him to come to Anfield – It’s all starting.
Fans have condemned the decision to let Nathan Ake’s goal against Tottenham stand on Friday night.
Ake scored late on to help Manchester City defeat Tottenham in the fourth round of the FA Cup, tapping home from close range after Guglielmo Vicario failed to deal with a Kevin De Bruyne corner.
Referee Paul Tierney booked the home custodian for his complaints after he and his teammates claimed Ruben Dias fouled him in the build-up to the goal.
Replays indicated that, while Vicario managed to get to the corner to punch it, Dias jumped beside him, throwing him off balance, before Ake scored on a loose ball.
Some fans are outraged by the decision, which comes after a goal was disallowed earlier this season when Manuel Akanji collided with Alisson Becker during City’s draw with Liverpool in November.
‘That is an absolute foul on Vicario,’ claimed one user on X, formerly Twitter. “No way he doesn’t catch that if Dias isn’t blocking him from it.”
‘THAT IS 100% A FOUL,’ said another, while a separate fan brought up the Akanji incident, writing: ‘Akanji on Alisson = Foul. Dias on Vicario: Not a Foul.
Meanwhile, optician store Specsavers joked that VAR is watching #TheTraitors rather than the game.
After the game, Ake said that he wasn’t sure if the goal should have been ruled out because he hadn’t witnessed the situation up close and was just focused on the ball.
He told ITV: ‘I’m not sure what happened to be fair. I just saw the ball in front of me and pushed it in, so I’m not sure what occurred. I’d have to see it returned.
‘We are quite pleased. So happy. It was tough, but I believe we performed well throughout the game. So, yes, we had to score, and it didn’t happen again for a long time. So I was thinking, will it happen? But happily, we got it in.
Ange Postecolglou, Tottenham’s manager, did not contest the judgement.
The dissatisfied Australian stated: “I believe the decision has been made, and we must accept it.” They are a top opponent who will make you suffer; they were the worst team.
‘It was too difficult a test for us. We will continue on our current path; nothing will change for us.
