The manager of Manchester United, Erik ten Hag, has criticised and referred to himself as “deluded” for statements made after the team’s loss in the derby
Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has been told he’s “deluded” after what he said after Sunday’s derby loss.
The Red Devils went to the Etihad to play Manchester City, their local rivals and the current champs. They were in the lead but couldn’t win as Pep Guardiola’s team beat them 3-1. It didn’t matter what Marcus Rashford scored in the end because Phil Foden scored twice and Erling Haaland scored late.
City was clearly the better team, with 27 shots on goal compared to United’s three. They also had most of the ball. Even so, Ten Hag was very proud of his team at the end of the game. He said the Red Devils played “brilliantly” and that they could have won the game if not for the “small margins.”
Chris Sutton, a famous pundit and former Chelsea player, has strongly disagreed with Ten Hag’s idea after the game. He said this on the show It’s All Kicking Off: “Erik ten Hag is crazy.” I believe that Man United has come full circle under his leadership.

“In his first Manchester derby, they lost 6-3, and I said the score would be like in cricket that day. I went with that again yesterday.” Man City is so far ahead of Man United, but what worries me the most is hearing Ten Hag say things like “we are progressing, that was a good performance.” I understand that managers have to keep things positive.
“If I were a Man United fan, I’d really question what the manager is saying and how the team is playing.” To be honest, I don’t think anyone at United sees Erik ten Hag staying there after this season.
The huge difference in ability between the two teams was made clear in their game on Sunday, and United’s view of the league table is not a good one. City is 18 points ahead of them and has a much better goal difference, putting them four places ahead.

Guardiola’s team is trying to win their sixth title in seven years, while United’s chances of making it to the Champions League are getting worse every week. Ten Hag’s team is sixth in the table, 11 points behind Aston Villa, who is in fourth place and very much wanted.
The schedule also doesn’t look good for United. Up until the end of the season, Ten Hag still has to play at home against Liverpool and Arsenal, two of the “big six” teams, as well as a tough trip to west London to play Chelsea, a team that is having a tough time.
