Premier League have just announced the shocking VAR Error By referees of Chelsea vs Brighton- PGMOL under scrutiny over surprising VAR mistake made by The Referee during the Chelsea vs Brentford match not awarding Marc Cucurella a Penalty after a harsh tackle
After a strange ruling that overturned a Chelsea penalty, VAR became controversial once more.
Facundo Buonanotte was judged to have fouled Marc Cucurella during the first half of the Blues’ match against Brighton, earning them a spot kick.
Replays, however, revealed that Buonanotte had won the ball in a well timed challenge; VAR then requested a review by referee Michael Salisbury.
Salisbury overruled the penalty on the monitor, but for some reason he ordered for a drop ball rather than a Chelsea corner.
Refereeing proved to be controversial once more on a day when revealed Premier League clubs will vote on perhaps doing away with VAR.
Several supporters expressed their confusion on social media at the result, with one on X commenting, “Good call, not a penalty, but should have been a corner to Chelsea.”
How the f*** is it not a corner if it’s not a penalty? Another person said, “Scrap it; even when VAR operates ‘properly,’ they still manage to get it wrong.
“Don’t get the officiating at times in this EPL,” said a third. Chelsea will have a corner if it’s not a penalty. It is as evident as day.”
“I apologize. Not a pen. Not a nook. Chelsea does not get the ball. Wtf,” another person said.
Fortunately, Cole Palmer headed in Cucurella’s cross from the left shortly after the half-hour mark to give Chelsea the lead.
