Pep Guardiola has announced this morning Julian Alvarez replacement after he left the club to join Athletico Madrid on a five years contract
Julian Alvarez’s replacement by a new acquisition this month is far from a foregone conclusion, as the Manchester City club has several internal choices.
Oscar Bobb is the most evident, having been the star player on the club’s preseason tour of the United States. Since turning 21 in mid-July, the Norwegian international has two goals and three assists in City’s four high-scoring friendly.
Bobb, who appeared 26 times last season, all but seven of them as a substitute, appears to be on his way to a larger role. Impressing in Alvarez’s absence has only increased his prospects.
That also goes to James McAtee, who scored in the Milan encounter and assisted on two goals against Chelsea. Nico O’Reilly also took his chances in the other two games, assisting Bobb’s goal against Celtic and scoring against Barcelona.
It is expected that both will remain on the first-team roster this season. There is also speculation that Phil Foden will play a larger role in this season than he did last year.
In terms of City’s existing acquisitions, Savinho should get an opportunity to make a good first impression against Manchester United in the Community Shield. Claudio Echeverri will also come in January after spending the remainder of the year on loan at River Plate.
Pep Guardiola has said that the club will consider adding to the team if a player leaves, but finding the perfect quality before the end of the month is difficult. So do not expect the initial £64 million fee, or the money spent on Sergio Gomez, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Tommy Doyle, and Yan Couto, to result in the addition of multiple new players, since the manager stated that the team will remain unchanged from last season.
