Arsenal are reportedly keen on acquiring Fabian Ruiz from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) as Mikel Arteta intensifies his search for a new midfielder. According to Caught Offside, Ruiz has been included in Arsenal’s list of potential signings. Arteta is particularly interested in a left-footed midfielder, and Ruiz has emerged as a preferred candidate. PSG may be open to offers for the player.
Arsenal’s interest in Ruiz is driven by the need to strengthen their midfield, especially on the left side, which has been weakened since Granit Xhaka’s departure. Ruiz, who played a significant role in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory, has not been a regular starter under PSG coach Luis Enrique, appearing in only 21 league matches last season. This limited playtime has prompted PSG to consider selling him, particularly as they near the signing of Portuguese talent Joao Neves.
Arsenal are contemplating a loan move for Ruiz, with an option to purchase at the end of the season. However, it is unclear whether PSG would agree to this arrangement, as they reportedly value Ruiz at around €45 million.
Despite genuine interest in Ruiz, he is not Arsenal’s primary target. Arteta’s main focus is on securing Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad, who he believes possesses the qualities he desires in a midfielder. Arsenal plan to make an offer for Merino once personal terms are agreed upon. Nevertheless, if negotiations for Merino fail, Ruiz could become Arsenal’s main target, as either player would significantly enhance the team’s midfield and support the development of younger players.
