Medical Scheduled ✅: Rivals loses £60m superstar signing to Arsenal, Medical plan to hold today as agreement reached last night – Jubilation at London Colney as Arsenal sealed second signing of the summer

Arsenal has submitted an offer for a defender who could potentially solve Mikel Arteta’s left-back problems for the upcoming season.

Last season, the injury to Jurrien Timber left Arsenal lacking options at left-back. While Jakub Kiwior stepped in and performed admirably, even occasionally transitioning into a midfield role, he ultimately proved more suitable as a central defender. Oleksandr Zinchenko, despite his proficiency with ball-handling, often exhibited poor defensive decision-making. Kieran Tierney, although fitting the character profile preferred by Arteta, does not align with Arteta’s tactical approach. Additionally, Tierney’s injury at Euro 2024 further complicates his potential sale.

Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna, who had an outstanding Euros, appears to be the ideal candidate for Arsenal. Endorsed by Jorginho, Calafiori offers versatility, being capable of playing both as a centre-back and a full-back. According to Italian reports, Arsenal has made a €47 million (£40 million) bid for him.

The Italian publication Corriere dello Sport reported on its front page that Arsenal submitted the bid and is competing with Chelsea and Liverpool for Calafiori’s signature. Arsenal’s interest has rapidly intensified, indicating their clear intentions.

Following his impressive Euro 2024 campaign, Calafiori has been recognized as one of the best in the world, attracting interest from top European clubs. While Arsenal fans may remember the failed pursuit of Manuel Locatelli in 2021 due to Juventus’ strong influence in Serie A, Bologna’s sporting director appears determined that Calafiori will move abroad this summer, providing Arsenal with hope in securing the defender.
