Manchester United’s big name striker signing has been named this evening

Manchester United may not recruit a new striker before the conclusion of the January transfer window, while 90min hears that Bayern Munich’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is on their radar if they do buy a forward.

Last week, 90min claimed that Erik ten Hag would like to add another goal scorer to his squad. However, United are emphasising outgoings during the winter window, so moving aggressively in the market will be difficult, at least unless Antony Martial exits.

Timo Werner was looked at and inquired about by the Red Devils back in November, but they never formally followed up on that interest. Werner instead joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan from RB Leipzig until the end of the season, with an option to buy, although they did not necessarily ‘beat’ United to his signature, despite Old Trafford’s praise for the Germany international.

Choupo-Moting, whose contract with Bayern Munich expires in the summer, is another striker under consideration by United, according to sources.

Following the blockbuster addition of Harry Kane in the summer, head coach Thomas Tuchel has utilised the 34-year-old sparingly. Choupo-Moting has only played 519 minutes in 14 games for Bayern this season, scoring two goals, although he scored 17 goals in all competitions last season.

Choupo-Moting is viewed as a target who may be within United’s financial constraints, although no agreement has been reached at this time.

United also likes Serhou Guirassy, who is now at the Africa Cup of Nations with Guinea but is suffering from a minor injury. Despite his €17.5 million (£15 million) release clause, he appears content to stay in Stuttgart until the conclusion of the season.

Jonathan David has been mentioned internally at United as a long-term striker. The Canadian’s contract with Lille expires in 2025, and the Ligue 1 club may be obliged to sell him this summer.
