Manchester United is currently evaluating Gareth Southgate as a potential replacement for Erik ten Hag, as they unveil a three-man shortlist for the managerial position.
Erik ten Hag might be replaced by Gareth Southgate, who is the boss of England.
A new story says that Erik ten Hag’s replacement could be Gareth Southgate or two other candidates. ten Hag is expected to leave Old Trafford in the summer.
After United’s recent 3-1 loss to Manchester City, Ten Hag is under a lot of pressure. His team is now in sixth place, 19 points behind league leaders Liverpool.
This week, it was said that United players are “increasingly doubtful” about the Dutchman’s future after this summer. Many of them think that INEOS will fire him and hire a new manager.
However, ESPN says that no decision has been made about Ten Hag’s future and that “options are being explored to gauge the credentials and availability of possible replacements.”
England boss Gareth Southgate is one of the people being looked at by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team, along with Thomas Frank and Roberto De Zerbi.
Many people at Brighton are pleased by De Zerbi, who is being watched by many clubs, and Thomas Frank’s choice to use data to make decisions has “earned admirers” at United.
Southgate is seen as a “outsider” for the job because he is currently England’s manager and hasn’t decided what he will do after the Euros this summer.
That being said, the story comes back to his longtime friendship with Dan Ashworth, who is almost certain to become United’s next sporting director. Ashworth used to work for the FA.
ESPN has also heard from sources that INEOS is also looking at other managers and teachers. They don’t want to be caught off guard this summer, when big-name managers are still rumoured to be interested in moving on.
There has been a lot of talk lately about Ten Hag’s prospects. After Manchester City’s latest loss, former United player Paul Scholes told the 54-year-old how he really felt about things right now.
“What we’re seeing is a million miles away from a team that should be challenging for the league,” he told Optus Sport. It’s just so far away every season.”
“I think they [INEOS] have already made up their minds,” he said. He probably won’t be there next season. No.
“From the interviews we’ve heard with Sir Jim, I got the sense that he didn’t like the club in the last 10 or 11 years, especially the last two years.” I think he doesn’t like what’s going on.
“It’s possible that they’re looking for a new manager right now.” It’s not my opinion that it’s the right choice.
