Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has given verdict on Ederson injury and the condition of his injury
The Premier League winners’ first-choice goalkeeper, Ederson, got hurt early in the game against Newcastle. But City fans were furious when the Brazilian fixed the problem after the game had already started because the offside flag was late.
It was a clash between Ederson and Sean Longstaff that caused the injury. Longstaff scored the goal for Newcastle. VAR said the goal wasn’t valid, but Ederson had to leave the game and Stefan Ortega had to take his place. City fans were upset on social media that the assistant referee didn’t raise the flag because of VAR’s offside rule.
“Absolute f*cking joke the offside procedure nowadays, he’s blatantly offside, linesman doesn’t raise his flag and Ederson gets injured as a result,” a person said.
Simon Hattenstone, a journalist, wrote, “Playing on when clearly offside is the stupidest rule change in footy.” Now Ederson has been hurt while “playing on,” and Stones has already been hurt in the same way.
Someone else said: “Stones and Ederson now injured due to football collectively deciding linesmen are basically pointless.”
WHAT DID YOU KNOW?
A defender named John Stones got hurt in a similar situation not long before Ederson got hurt. It was against Everton last month, and he pushed Beto to stop him from scoring. But the forward was offside, so the goal wouldn’t have counted. The assistant referee did not wave offside, though, because officials in the Premier League are told to wait before raising their flags and stopping the game.
City will be hoping that Ederson, the Brazilian custodian, is not hurt too badly. On January 26, they play Tottenham in the FA Cup. They hope he can play at that game.
