Manchester City carried a wounded and bruised squad to Bournemouth – and lost their first Premier League game of the season.
Bournemouth overcame Arsenal at the Vitality Stadium in their previous home game and secured a draw against Aston Villa last time out. City lost their first game of the season in midweek as a much-changed team were barely defeated at Tottenham in the Carabao Cup. This was back-to-back defeats for City in all competitions and the first in the league.
Pep Guardiola welcomed back Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker and Jeremy Doku to his squad while Savinho, Manu Akanji and Josko Gvardiol recovered from injuries. But John Stones and Ruben Dias were out and added to the injured list.
City were under-par and went behind to Antoine Semenyo’s turn and finish in the first half. Evanilson made it two in the second half, and despite Josko Gvardiol’s response and a late revival, City departed the Vitality with no points.
