Fabrizio Romano of Manchester City has just provided an interesting transfer update.
Manchester City are allegedly close to signing Claudio Echeverri from River Plate in a deal similar to the Julian Alvarez trade.
Last night, it was reported that City were preparing a £22 million bid for the Argentine midfielder.
City reportedly felt quite hopeful and optimistic about landing the highly regarded and highly desired teenager, who is also being pursued by Chelsea and Barcelona.

Manchester City’s pursuit of Claudio Echeverri has received an interesting update from Romano.

“Understand Manchester City are advancing to final stages of Claudio Echeverri deal, contacts taking place even today,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“We intend to structure a deal with River Plate in the same way that we did with Julián lvarez – Echeverri will remain on loan.” Package worth more than €20 million. More to come.”
City has great success with Julian Alvarez, who has been one of the team’s standout performers this season.
He joined the club in the summer of 2022, with City having agreed to a deal in advance but originally keeping the player at River Plate.
That proved to be a wise decision, as Alvarez came in and made an immediate effect for City, settling in quickly.
Echeverri could be another hidden gem.
This is a really exciting development, and it appears like City are about to sign another great young Argentine star.
The club has undoubtedly had a number of notable Argentina players at the Etihad Stadium over the years, with Alvarez being the most recent.
Clearly, there is an expectation that Echeverri will be a valuable acquisition, and City appear to believe that the structure of the Alvarez agreement will yield comparable results.
Forbes believes Echeverri could be the next superstar to emerge from River’s talent pipeline, and there have already been comparisons to Lionel Messi, which is quite intriguing.
We’ll see what happens, but this is a scenario that fans should keep an eye on.
