Manchester City Coach Pep Guardiola has finally dropped VERY SAD News regarding Matheus Nunes injury update this morning ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ˜”

Manchester City’s Matheus Nunes suffered a severe finger injury during their otherwise comfortable Champions League victory over Copenhagen.

After winning the first leg 3-1 in Denmark, Pep Guardiola’s side advanced to the quarter-finals with another overwhelming triumph by the same scoreline, this time courtesy of goals from Manuel Akanji, Julian Alvarez, and Erling Haaland. Guardiola gave Nunes his third start in City’s last four games, after he had to wait after joining from Wolves for ยฃ53 million last summer.

Midway through the second half, the 25-year-old playmaker fell and landed awkwardly on his left hand. Nunes was then observed writhing on the ground in excruciating pain, his middle finger bent out of position.

The Portugal international was promptly replaced by youngster Micah Hamilton, and after having his fingers taped up, he hopes to be available for Sunday’s exciting match against Liverpool. A win would put City two points ahead of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table, while a loss would drop them four points behind.

Images of Nunes’ injuries circulated on social media, and one fan admitted: “I thought Nunes was just being a little soft at the time. “I just saw his finger *puke emoji*.”

But former City custodian Shay Given said on BBC Radio 5 Live: ‘As a custodian, I played on with a dislocated finger, and Matheus Nunes has gone off with one tonight’. Maybe I am old school.”

Overall, the holders had a successful night, having put in a lot of effort in the first leg. In round two at the Etihad on Wednesday, the hosts lead 2-0 after nine minutes thanks to goals from Akanji and Alvarez, but ex-Southampton and Celtic winger Mohamed Elyounoussi capped off a stunning Copenhagen effort to equalise.

However, Haaland restored City’s four-goal aggregate advantage soon before halftime, scoring his ninth goal in three games. Guardiola told TNT Sports after the win: “We’ve advanced to the next round. We are still in the competition. It was difficult to attack them (Copenhagen) because they are extremely organised and play four or five at the back.”

City now awaits its quarter-final opponents, with the draw scheduled for 11 a.m. next Friday (March 15). “Listen, we’re competing with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich,” the treble-winning manager said. “We’re not sure who we’ll be facing. It’s a case of wait and see. The main thing is that we’ve been there seven years in a row.
